Browse local Census Data

I found this great map search from New York Times. You can browse local data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, based on samples from 2005 to 2009. Simply put, you add the zip code of interest, choose between Income, Ethnicity, Home values, and Education, and then drag the mouse over the census areas.

I find this a really helpful tool whether you are just curious about your current neighborhood, or you are researching a new neighborhood, city or state. You can tell a lot about a neighborhood from income, education and home values.

Because these figures are based on samples, they are subject to a margin of error, particularly in places with a low population, and are best regarded as estimates.

Be forewarned; it gets a little addicting……
